Celebration of International Year of Biodiversity (IYB) 2010 in
Egypt

The Aim of the Action Plan:
" Raise awareness among major stakeholders of the important
role of biodiversity in livelihoods and the challenges and opportunities
of conserving biodiversity
" Understand the importance of the link between protecting
biodiversity resources and human well being.
" preserve the coral reefs in Red Sea in Egypt and their
related ecosystem.
" Understand the value of biodiversity and learn how human
actions affect biodiversity.
" Hold and organize exhibitions for the public on biodiversity
issues.
" Increase in actions by youth such as declarations, and
contributions to the Green belt and tree planting achievement.

Outcomes;
" Learn about the importance of biodiversity; learn how human
actions affect biodiversity; inspire adults to take actions to
conserve and sustainably use biodiversity.

and preserve practices and traditional knowledge that supports
biodiversity by using the survey and evaluation to share other
sponsoring institution such as UNEP.

Awareness raising and announcement of (IYB) 2010
Theme: "biodiversity is life"
Aim:
" Guide the people about the theme of the year which is "biodiversity
is life"
" Raise awareness on how to conserve and sustainability use
biodiversity
" Announce the International Biodiversity Year 2010
" What is the reason for choosing the theme" biodiversity
is life" (Johannesburg 2002 to 2010)

Activities:
Speeches from the professional of Biodiversity (UNEP - Faculty
of Science - AUC - Arab Academy for Science) - cessions for the
participants to explain about the biodiversity - conserve and
sustainability use of biodiversity - what is the relation between
climate change and biodiversity.
Publication
UNEP and CBD secretariat to contribute awareness raising materials.

Hurgada Biodiversity youth and Children's Camp
Theme biodiversity is life
Aim:
" Inform and educate the youth about the biodiversity challenges
in this area
" Discuss with youth and participants different ways to deal
with the challenge
" Provide an opportunity for the media to focus on the theme
of (IYB) "Biodiversity is life"
" Get the youth involved in this camp by giving them chances
to organize some workshops about the theme.
" Provide a platform for the the governmental and non-governmental
organizations to collaborate together to conserve the environment
by get them involved in the program, workshops and sponsorships.
" Announce the celebration of international year of Biodiversity
" Preserve the coral reefs in Red Sea in Egypt and their
related ecosystem.
" Clean up campaign of two islands in Red Sea.
" Clean up and plant trees in two area's in Hurgada.
" Organize photograph competition on biodiversity issue.

Faculty of Fine Arts and Students from schools
" Clean up campaign in Abu Monkar Island.
" Clean up campaign in Elgftoon Island and discover the biodiversity
resource and how to protect them.
" Plant trees in two areas in Hurgada city and clean up the
area.
" Discover biodiversity trip to Red Sea coral reefs half
day activity
Outcomes:
" Protection of the biodiversity in Abu Monkar and Elgftoon
islands in the Red Sea.
" Provide an opportunity for the media to focus on the theme
of the (IYB) 2010 "Biodiversity is life" and the links
between climate change and Biodiversity.

Focus of the vision of the youth about the Biodiversity and tree
planting.

Create a data base of the youth participants to use on the Youth
Summit conference in August 2010 in Egypt.
Fundraising:
Appeal to organizations, such as UNEP and other agencies to fund
some of the activities.
